Customs Entry Writer – FDA Imports

Location: Long Beach, CA
Salary: $65,000–$70,000 annually

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Customs Entry Writer with 3–5 years of hands-on entry-writing experience and a strong background processing FDA-regulated imports. This position is ideal for someone who understands the complexities of importing food, dietary supplements, cosmetics, medical products, or other FDA-regulated commodities.

The successful candidate will have strong HTS classification and import compliance knowledge, proficiency with CargoWise, and the ability to independently prepare accurate and timely customs entries.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and transmit customs entries for ocean, air, and truck imports.
  • Process FDA-regulated entries, including required FDA data and documentation.
  • Review commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, arrival notices, and supporting import documents.
  • Accurately classify products using the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS).
  • Handle entries involving FDA, USDA, and other Partner Government Agencies (PGAs).
  • Monitor shipments and respond to FDA holds, exams, documentation requests, and entry-related issues.
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection regulations and current import requirements.
  • Communicate with clients, customs officials, carriers, and internal teams to resolve discrepancies and provide shipment updates.
  • Maintain accurate entry records and documentation in CargoWise.
  • Assist with compliance reviews, recordkeeping, and audits as needed.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of customs entry-writing experience with a freight forwarder or customs broker.
  • Hands-on FDA entry experience is required.
  • Experience with FDA-regulated commodities such as food, dietary supplements, cosmetics, medical devices, or related products is strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of HTS classification, customs documentation, and U.S. import regulations.
  • Experience processing FDA, USDA, and other PGA entries.
  • Proficiency with CargoWise is required.
  • Experience handling ocean, air, and truck imports.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple entries and deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
