Resume Tips

Is your resume working against you?...Here's checklist to follow before you send out your resume.

  • Update your job objective for each position you apply for.
  • Check spelling and grammar. This is important…especially when applying for an administrative or clerical position.
  • Ensure the facts are correct: check your contact details, and job titles, company name and dates.
  • Use simple formatting, and clean, plain white paper. Complex formatting such as columns or borders or resumes printed on unusual paper are harder to scan into the employer's database for future searches.
  • Keep it simple and easy to read at a glance. Use short sentences, brief descriptions, bullet points rather than telling a long story.
  • Note all Skills, Languages, special training that may apply.
  • Leave off anything that may distract the reader from considering you for the job or encourage them to discriminate against you.
  • Do not include information such as your age, marital status, religious, ethnic background or obscure hobbies.

A good resume can make or break the decision as to whether a hiring manager will be interested in interviewing you. If you have questions regarding your resume, ask your recruiter for advise.
