Dress for Success .... First impressions are critical!

Throughout the job-seeking process employers use a rule of thumb...It's how you're dressed that sets the tone of the interview. “The reality is... you are judged on your appearance”. Dressing conservatively is always the safest route. Attention to details are crucial! ....here are some tips for both men and women:

  • Clean, polished dress shoes, Well-groomed hair, trimmed fingernails
  • Minimal cologne or perfume (or none), Minimal jewelry
  • No visible body piercing other than ear piercing for women
  • Well-brushed teeth and fresh breath...No gum in your mouth

For women - a conservative dark navy or gray skirted wool blend suit. Pant suits, or a skirted suit preferred. Skirt length should be a little below the knee and never shorter than above the knee. Avoid wearing a dress. Blouses should white or some other light color. Make-up should be minimal, with lipstick and nail polish conservative tones. Pantyhose should be flawless and conservative in color.

These women are appropriately dressed and ready for an interview.

For men - a conservative dark navy or gray suit, white dress shirt, a conservative tie (match the color in your suit), and polished shoes. If you do not own a suit, then wear a sports coat (no plaids, preferably a dark color), dress slacks, a white long-sleeved shirt, tie, and dress shoes. Your belt should match your shoes. Facial hair should be neatly trimmed and if you have any visible body piercings,...remove them plain and simple!
